Retail Operations Associate (Full-Time)

The Retail Operations Associate supports the mission of The Caring Place, “To provide for the basic human needs of all people in our community in a welcoming, respectful, and caring way.” This role combines the responsibilities of the Donations Associate and Retail Sales Associate into one unified position. The Retail Operations Associate contributes to the efficiency and success of the Retail Operations Department by performing duties related to donations processing, retail sales, customer service, and volunteer support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greet and assist donors and customers in a welcoming and professional manner.
  • Unload and screen donations for acceptability, ensuring proper handling, sorting, pricing, and placement in the appropriate warehouse or sales area.
  • Assist in moving, testing, repairing, and storing donated items.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and attractive store, donation, and warehouse environment.
  • Train and assist volunteers and community service workers in both retail and donations operations.
  • Provide receipts to donors and assist purchasers with loading items.
  • Support pricing, merchandising, stocking, and cashiering as needed.
  • Ensure that volunteers have the necessary supplies and information to complete their tasks.
  • Operate POS system and label printing equipment; print barcodes as needed.
  • Assist in daily opening and closing duties, ensuring the store is ready for business.
  • Maintain consistent communication with team members and leadership regarding staffing, workflow, and volunteer coverage.
  • Participate in food warehouse operations when needed, including weighing, documenting, sorting, and staging food donations.
  • Drive the company truck as required to pick up or deliver donations.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and operational policies.
  • Promote teamwork and a positive environment among staff, volunteers, and customers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of professional work experience in retail or warehouse operations.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs with assistance.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; ability to drive company vehicles.
  • Effective conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adequate computer skills to operate POS systems and other internal software.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Work Conditions (Mental/Physical/Environmental):

  • Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours).
  • Frequent stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing.
  • Maintain a calm, positive demeanor at all times.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including Saturdays.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to The Caring Place’s Policies and Procedures.
