Food Programs Associate (Full-Time)

The Food Programs Associate is responsible for providing basic needs assistance through three food programs. This position meets organizational standards and interacts with clients, volunteers and everyone at TCP in a welcoming, respectful, and caring manner. This position processes inbound food orders and donations (both on- and off-site) and assists neighbors in shopping for food.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Embraces and memorizes The Caring Place Mission: to provide for the basic human needs of all people in our community in a welcoming, respectful, and caring way.
  • Exemplifies I Am CARING Values: Integrity, Caring, Accountable, Respectful, Inclusive, Neighborly, and Grateful
  • Processes inbound food items through pick-ups, receiving, sorting and stocking;
  • Supports client shopping experience through check-in and item selection;
  • Supports outbound food items by weighing and loading vehicles;
  • Ensures client wait time is minimal and clients are provided same-day service, if possible;
  • Ensure timely communication and updates to other staff and volunteers regarding all pantry related updates;
  • Provides input on operational procedures;
  • Maintains a full understanding of systems and procedures required for a department’s operations;
  • Participate and contribute actively in all supervisory and team meetings;
  • Work independently, organize work efficiently, prioritize responses to changing needs of clients and volunteers;
  • Prioritize workload while remaining flexible in the demands of the workday.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

The preferred candidate has the following education, experience, and expertise:

  • High school diploma or equivalency required
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record
  • Forklift certification preferred
  • Warehouse experience preferred
  • Experience working with diverse populations and cultures preferred
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred
  • Frequent stooping, bending, pulling and pushing
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. unassisted and 100 lbs. assisted required
  • Ability to be creative, flexible, and decisive
  • Exhibit a positive, calm, and professional demeanor
  • Ability to manage multiple, complex, multi-faceted responsibilities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment

Work Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

  • Exhibit a positive and calm demeanor at all times;
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and stand for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours);
  • Frequent stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing;
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. unassisted and up to 100 lbs. with assistance;
  • Scheduled hours are Mon–Fri, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. (Schedule is subject to change to meet business needs; could include Saturdays in the future.)

This position is classified as non-exempt under the Federal Wage and Hour Laws. It is full-time, 40-hour per week position. The Caring Place is an equal opportunity employer.
