Communications Manager (Full-Time)
The Communications Manager is responsible for creating, implementing, and overseeing marketing and communications efforts across the organization to audiences, including donors, volunteers, partners, and the general public. Areas of responsibility and oversight include branding and messaging, digital and print marketing, marketing fundraising campaigns, collateral design and creation, photography and video, media relations, and organizational storytelling. The Communications Manager works closely with the Leadership Team and the Community Engagement Manager to ensure the success of strategic initiatives and the fulfillment of The Caring Place’s mission. This position reports to the Executive Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Communications
- Create and manage an internal and external comprehensive communications plan that aligns with TCP’s organizational goals, mission, and values;
- Communications and marketing efforts will include sharing TCP’s mission, values, retail shopping, client success, volunteers, and culture.
- Prepares written, monthly marketing/PR highlights with social media and website analytics.
- Branding and Messaging
- Ensure consistent and proper use of TCP’s brand and messaging across internal and external channels;
- Position TCP as a community nonprofit leader in our community;
- Develop targeted messaging for various audiences, including donors, volunteers, community partners, prospective supporters, city leaders, and the general north Williamson County community;
- Digital/Print Marketing and Advertising
- Provide strategy and content creation for email marketing (Constant Contact);
- Manage social media accounts, including strategy, content creation, data analysis, and profile upkeep (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Google Business, Yelp);
- Create content with personal photography and videography;
- Encourage and enlist staff to communicate about their departments in digital engagement and video opportunities;
- Provide oversight and maintain website design and content with a Content Management System (Firespring);
- Manage graphic design for all internal and external digital and print marketing needs; design materials internally as needed (Use of Canva, Adobe Express, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Rush, Adobe Premiere, Adobe InDesign, or similar preferred);
- Manage various marketing vendor relationships as needed, including outside photography, outside videography, professional printing, advertising, and website hosting;
- Ensure balance in workflow for on-time publication production; conform to quality standards and style, editorial space, and budgetary parameters of each publication.
Fundraising Support
- Develop creative concepts and messaging for fundraising appeals, both print and digital;
- Collaborate on fundraising goals, events, and campaigns with the Community Engagement Manager;
- Manage the development of all event or fundraising materials, video creation, speaker talking points, and media engagement;
- Maintain a supporter newsletter as an effective stewardship tool for donors, volunteers, and community members;
- Provide marketing and communications support for community events supporting TCP.
Media Relations
- Field media requests; determine relevance and appropriateness of TCP response to requests; refer appropriate staff members and ensure follow-up;
- Organize, facilitate, and coordinate media interviews, including television, print, and electronic channels leading up to or during the event. This may include the development of talking points for the Event Chair/Master of Ceremonies, Staff, or Board for any media interviews;
- Collect and select potential newsworthy information from various sources within and impacting The Caring Place;
- Develop talking points and coach various TCP spokespersons for media interviews, including both staff and clients, as needed;
- Assess which agency-related items/programs/events/people might be publicized to receive maximum credit and disseminate information through established media contacts and distribution channels;
- Maintain, update, and manage master media contacts database spreadsheet and build new media relationships;
- Write, design, edit, select illustrations, and coordinate layout and editorial production for various public relations materials and publications. Responsible for content, presentation, and style;
- Send out regular media releases with seasonal timing in mind.
Storytelling
- Collaborate with program teams to drive an internal culture of storytelling and share the impact of TCP’s work in an ethical way;
- Interview clients, staff members, donors, and volunteers to share stories with the general public; ensure appropriate confidentiality or releases with all interviewing, storytelling, and photography/video;
- Write stories/blogs in various formats for different channels, including donor newsletters, social media, website, and fundraising appeals.
Community Outreach
- Support Community Engagement Manager with appropriate materials for regular outreach (flyers, tablecloths, collateral pieces, signs);
- Support outreach efforts through Social Media;
- Write monthly community newsletter;
- Write and design biannual newsletter and Annual report with team assistance;
- Assist groups such as 2-1-1, Findhelp.org, Membership Council, and volunteers in staying updated on programs.
Leadership and Management
- Provide guidance on issues related to communications and marketing across the organization;
- Work closely with staff on key communications issues and public response strategies;
- Supervise and engage communications interns as available, guiding messaging and engagement with various target audiences;
- Lead public relations efforts and responses to social media posts and reviews, including misinformation and rumors.
Qualifications
- Commitment to The Caring Place mission, vision, and values;
- Minimum 5 years of communications experience, nonprofit experience desired;
- Two or four year degree in Communications, English/Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Graphic Design or related field;
- Demonstrated knowledge of video and design programs detailed on job description and MS Office;
- Proven project management experience;
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills;
- Eye for design and experience creating graphics;
- Strong understanding of marketing and communications for a nonprofit organization;
- Highly motivated and self-directed with strong organizational and time-management skills;
- Exhibit positive and calm demeanor at all times.
Hours, Salary and Benefits:
- Exempt Full-time position, on-site work environment;
- Annual salary range of 55-60k:
