Dear Friends,

Food shouldn’t be an impossible choice.

For too many people living in Georgetown and northern Williamson County, a daily meal isn’t a choice about what to eat for lunch or dinner. It’s a choice between eating a meal or paying for critical basic needs—like medicine, rent, electricity or transportation.

Nearly 82,971 residents or 13.4% experience food insecurity across Williamson County. Of those, over 27,000 are children and more than 11,900 are older adults. No community is untouched by food insecurity – including Georgetown and northern Williamson County.

The Caring Place exists to support the basic needs of all people in the community which includes assistance with food.

Each September, Hunger Action Month unites millions of people across the United States to raise awareness and provide nutritious food to neighbors facing hunger. Led by Feeding America and in partnership with food banks across the country, The Caring Place is one of many organizations working together to feed people in Central Texas.

Did you know that The Caring Place is seeing increases in the numbers of people who come to us for food each month?

Through August, The Caring Place has already served:

  • 33,647 neighbors with groceries from the food pantry, an increase of 6% at this time last year;
  • 5,131 individuals with fresh fruit and vegetables through the Fresh Food for Families program, an 16% increase over last year; and,
  • 975 seniors 60 years of age or older with an additional 15-20 pounds of shelf-stable grocery items to supplement their diet through Healthy Options Program for the Elderly (HOPE), again, a 11% increase from last year.

It is because of the incredible support of our donors, volunteers, community partners and donations to the thrift stores that we have been able to meet the growing need and continue to care for our neighbors. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of our friends and neighbors.

We invite you to join us this month – and every month - to fight hunger and provide basic human needs to all people who call Georgetown and northern Williamson County home.

Here’s how you can help us continue to meet the increasing number of people coming to us for help:

Thank you for joining us in our mission to provide for the basic human needs of all people in our community in a welcoming, respectful and caring way.

Gratefully,

Ginna O'Connor

Executive Director
