There are lots of reasons why people volunteer. My favorite thing is when our volunteers say, “Volunteering fills my heart.” This means different things to different people. Here are some of the heart-filling reasons we hear around here:
- I want to fill my free time in a purposeful way;
- I want to surround myself with positive people doing positive things;
- I want to do something I enjoy;
- I want to share my talents with others;
- I want to inspire others;
- I want to make a difference in my community;
- I want to help others;
All of these reasons have the potential to fill your heart. They may drive you and give you purpose. Or they may create contentment and offer you joy. For us, the dedication and heart that our volunteers bring to The Caring Place helps operate a 37-year-old mission, a mission to help people throughout our community when they are going through difficult times. Every role at The Caring Place pushes us toward that mission, but how do you know if The Caring Place has a place for you?

How do you become a volunteer? Start by filling out a volunteer application at caringplacetx.org/volunteer. Our Volunteer Coordinator will call you to answer any questions you may have about volunteering and schedule you to attend our next volunteer orientation. We want to ensure that our volunteers know the basics of our mission and what you are helping to achieve in our community. We share our history, mission and work through a short presentation and by taking you on a tour of our organization. There are lots of “I didn’t know that!” moments, and hopefully, our orientation will further cement the idea for you that volunteering truly can fill your heart.
