Sandra

That’s how Sandra and her neighbors lovingly refer to The Caring Place.

We reconnected with Sandra through a heartfelt comment she shared on Facebook:

“When I moved to Georgetown in September of 1998 and for a few years thereafter, I relied on The Caring Place for food, bread, clothes, and even vouchers for medication for my son. The person at the time was named Nancy. I do not recall her last name, but I will remember her kind, beautiful face until my last breath.”

Sandra’s journey is one of resilience and hope. After the devastating and very unexpected loss of her father and a difficult divorce, she moved to Georgetown with her two children and her mother to live with her sister. Though she found part-time work at a law office, the position didn’t offer health insurance—and her son required a monthly medication she couldn’t afford while also covering basic living expenses.

That’s when Sandra turned to The Caring Place.

For several years, we helped Sandra and her family with food, clothing, and assistance for her son’s medication—thanks to the generous support of the community. It was a small part in a much larger story of rebuilding and perseverance.

Today, Sandra is a full-time paralegal in Austin and is Board Certified in Family Law by the State Bar's Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Her career exclusively focuses on family and children. Her own children are now grown (ages 33, 30, and 26), and life is good. She still smiles when she remembers the kindness she received—and now, she pays it forward by donating items exclusively to our organization and telling other families about The Caring Place, or as she still calls us: El Corazón.
