Support Specialist (Full-Time)

Purpose: The Support Specialist is responsible for providing basic need support to individuals and families experiencing financial crises and barriers to self-sufficiency. This position interacts with clients in a welcoming, respectful, and caring manner and will professionally provide client-centered services. This individual provides support and backup to all roles in the Programs and Services Department to ensure client needs are met in a timely manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Welcomes visitors to the Programs and Services lobby, providing clear guidance on the process for requesting assistance and required documentation;
  • Processes non-financial enrollments, including Food Pantry and household items;
  • Meets with clients to determine eligibility for financial assistance;
  • Processes online application inquiries;
  • Creates and maintains client files and other related records;
  • Inputs client data into empowOR database;
  • Supports Case Management Program in reviewing referrals and completing readiness assessments;
  • Ensure timely communication and updates to other staff and volunteers;
  • Ensures client wait time is minimal and clients are provided same-day service, if possible;
  • Provides input on operational procedures and forms for processing client assistance;
  • Maintains a full understanding of systems and procedures required for a department’s operations;
  • Identify clients and make appropriate referrals to case management programs;
  • Participate and contribute actively in all supervisory and team meetings;
  • Work independently, organize work efficiently, prioritize responses to changing needs of clients and volunteers;
  • Able to prioritize workload while remaining flexible in the demands of the workday;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalency plus two years of social service experience;
  • Experience working with diverse populations and cultures;
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required;
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and database systems;
  • Ability to be creative, flexible, and decisive;
  • Exhibit a positive, calm, and professional demeanor;
  • Ability to manage multiple, complex, multi-faceted responsibilities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

This position is classified as non-exempt under the Federal Wage and Hour Laws. It is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position. The Caring Place is an equal-opportunity employer.
