Goal set to collect 225,000 pounds of food!

The Caring Place provides a 10-day supply of food to families in financial crisis through its Food Pantry.  The Caring Place is preparing to launch its Hunger Free Holidays Food Drive on October 1, and it will end December 31.  With the community’s help, the organization wishes to collect 225,000 pounds of food by the New Year.

“The summer was challenging for the Food Pantry this year.  We count on this food drive during the giving season to fill the pantry up for a few months,” says Food Programs & Facilities Director, David Earl.  Individuals, businesses, clubs, neighborhoods, churches and other organizations may donate non-perishable food items or organize food drives. If organizing a Food Drive, groups can call The Caring Place to borrow the organization’s signature blue Food Barrels.  “With a goal of 225,000, we are definitely looking for community support.”

“This year, we’d like to recognize group Food Drives on Social Media to illustrate how giving can be fun.  We know groups like to have fun when they give.  For example, you might have your book club or Bunco group bring canned goods to your next meeting.  Or, maybe your youth group wants to trick-or-treat for nonperishables in your neighborhood?  Sometimes groups like a challenge too, like bringing items that start with a certain letter or the items to make your favorite holiday meal.  There are endless ideas to make Food Drives interesting.  We hope you’ll take a picture of your group or your fun ideas and share it with us, so we can encourage others to join in,” shares Jill Nalley, Communication Manager.  You can email photos to Jill at jnalley@caringplacetx.org then look for them on The Caring Place’s Facebook page.

“We know that the holidays can be a challenging time for families trying to make ends meet. We want to ensure no one in our community goes hungry, and that we start 2019 with a full pantry for our neighbors in need,” says Earl.  “We are excited at this time of year because the community always comes together in a big way to support the Food Pantry at The Caring Place.”

The Caring Place Food Pantry is one of four food programs offered by the nonprofit including Our Daily Bread, Healthy Options Program for the Elderly (HOPE) and Fresh Food For Families.
