34 Years of Caring at The Caring Place

On Friday, June 7 and Saturday, June 8, The Caring Place will celebrate its 34th birthday.  Since 1985, The Caring Place has provided for the basic human needs of all people in the community in a welcoming, respectful and caring way.  The mission statement says it all, and the organization wants you to help them continue to support this mission by ‘shopping for good’ in their two thrift stores, The Shops at The Caring Place and Second Helping.  What better way to celebrate than with a birthday sale?

Executive Director Ginna O’Connor shares, “Thirty-four years ago The Caring Place opened in a modest storefront with a handful of volunteers, three bags of clothing and $17.00. Since then, with the support of our incredibly compassionate community, The Caring Place has grown to meet the needs of our neighbors while continuing to stay true to its original mission. Each year, we see increases in the number of people we serve and the total value of support we provide to our neighbors. We appreciate those who donate to and shop at our thrift stores, The Shops at The Caring Place and Second Helping, which not only provide clothing and household goods for our clients, but also fully fund our organization’s operating costs. That means that when generous individuals give monetary donations, 100% of that donation goes to help a neighbor in need. We would not exist without the support of this community, and we consider it a great privilege to have this work entrusted to us.”

“This idea of ‘shopping for good’ is not new, but it’s a big part of our success in the community.  We want to thank the Georgetown area for their continued support by offering sales and drawings on June 7th and 8th in both of our stores.  You show us every day what a caring community you are and it is worth celebrating,” says store Director, Ann Lind.

The Shops at The Caring Place is located at 2000 Railroad Avenue, open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and until 7:00 p.m. on Thursdays.  Second Helping is located at 3700 Williams Drive, open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
