Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Results are In!

On Saturday, May 12th, The National Association of Letter Carriers Local 181 branch participated in the “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive. The community was invited to leave non-perishables by their mailbox for the letter carriers to retrieve. On the day of the official event local Scouts assisted staff and volunteers by unloading food from mail trucks. All food from this campaign was donated to The Caring Place Food Pantry. David Earl, Food Programs and Facilities Director at The Caring Place, shared that the city-wide food drive collected 9,170 pounds of food on May 12th.

“We thank the NALC for participating in this event. Every year summers in the Food Pantry get busier and busier. When we can start the summer months with a big food drive like this, it really helps to fill those shelves.” David added, “When kids are out of school for the summer and have fewer options for free or reduced lunches, families rely on our Food Pantry.” David urges the community to continue to give to the Food Pantry in the summer months. “Here in Texas our electric bills go up in the summer, so using the Food Pantry at The Caring Place is a simple way families in need can stretch their budgets to help pay for childcare or higher electricity bills.”

If you’d like to borrow a blue barrel and host a Food Drive in your neighborhood or business, please call or email David Earl at 512-943-0710 or dearly@caringplacetx.org. You can also donate nonperishables at The Caring Place donation drive through at 2000 Railroad Avenue from 9 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
